Yesterday was Aaliyah‘s 9th anniversary of her tragic death. Knowing Drake and his love for the late R&B princess, he wrote a guest blog/letter on RapRadar.com to share his thoughts, something touching.

RIP Babygirl.

Dear Dana,

I’ve never lost a parent, a friend, or a lover but I will never forget this day for the rest of my life. I remember getting the news that you had passed and it connected with my heart like a clean shot from Muhammad Ali. I was crushed. Not only was I one of your biggest fans but I was truly in love with you. I loved the way you carried yourself, the way you dressed, the confidence with which you addressed passion and relationships in your music. I said to myself that even if we never met, I wanted a woman in my life just like you. I am pained that we will never get to connect now that music ended up being my career path. But you should know, we all listen to you everyday and we remain inspired and moved by all that you’ve given the world. I hope I make the right life choices so I can end up in heaven where I know you rest your head. I’ll continue to make music in your honor until the day we finally meet. Dinner’s on me!

Love you always and forever,

Drake

Lil Wayne & Drake’s Top 5 Collabos

Above, Drake speaks on shooting the “Miss Me” video.

The “Miss Me” video premiered yesterday but before that project arrived, MTV News went back through their work to present Drake and Lil Wayne‘s top 5 collabos thus far. Agree or disagree?

1 » “Miss Me“:

Drizzy and Weezy have undeniable chemistry on the Toronto lyricist’s latest single, “Miss Me.” The two get down to the science of the matter (get it, chemistry?) and depict a triumphant nod to the presence of one MC (Drake) and the graceful bowing out of another (a soon-to-be-incarcerated Lil Wayne).

“Damn, I’ll be gone ’til November,” Wayne spits over the horn-laden track. “But f— it, I ain’t tripping, I know Drizzy gonna kill ‘em/ I’m sticking to the script like lint on denim/ Mama said if the rules ain’t bent, don’t bend them.”

Drake’s Ustream Recap by Billboard

How many of you tuned in Drake’s A Milli Ustream last night? Well if you did, I hope you enjoyed it all and if you didn’t, here’s a well detailed recap by Billboard. Lots of news & goodies!

After giving his fans a chance to watch the premiere of the “Miss Me” music video, Drake reached out to his fans — literally — during a Ustream webcast from his Toronto apartment Thursday night (Aug. 19). The rapper used the webcasting service for an hour to announce the title of his forthcoming R&B mixtape and a “Welcome Home Weezy” concert, show off his Toronto apartment and dial a handful of lucky fans on his Blackberry.

Drake struggled to launch the Ustream for nearly half an hour, but he was ready to answer fan questions once overcoming the technical difficulties. “Ustream is like the new press conference,” he said. “I put this [black hoodie] on and sprayed cologne as if you can smell it. It’s really as if we’re meeting in person.”

After answering questions about his mom (“I love her… I might see her tonight”) and the pressures he feels as an artist (“Every night I go to sleep, it’s like, ‘I gotta get better’… I gotta come back with an album that’s way better than ‘Thank Me Later,’ that’s way better than ‘So Far Gone’”), Drizzy said that his free R&B mixtape will be called “It’s Never Enough,” and that there is no release date but it will come out “soon.” He also said that he is working on his second album and hopes to have it out next year.

I had to be extra with the photo above. Young Money, Cash Money.

TORONTO — Toronto rapper Drake is already among the world’s richest rappers.

According to Forbes Magazine, the 23-year-old — whose real name is Aubrey Graham — made US$10 million over the past year to place as the 11th highest-earning hip-hop artist.

The two-time Grammy nominee topped such industry veterans as Eminem, T.I. and 50 Cent. He was also the highest-earning newcomer on the list.

The magazine attributed Drake’s earning prowess to his record deal and advertising agreements with Sprite and Virgin America.

His debut, “Thank Me Later,” has been certified platinum in Canada and the U.S. since dropping in June.

Jay-Z unsurprisingly topped the list with a $63-million haul, followed by Sean (Diddy) Combs, Akon, Lil Wayne and Dr. Dre.

Last night, Drake came out to LA to attend the launch party of the AT&T BlackBerry Torch, the latest device from the BlackBerry camp. The event was private and Drake performed a crowd of select celebrities. He then put on the smile we all love to take pictures with the BlackBerry staff. Drizzy was even put to the test to see if he could send a text message with his eyes closed, and of course he mastered it with no spelling errors. Check out the photos below!
