Drake won’t jump on just anybody’s song for a guest appearance, and he also won’t accept just anybody’s verses for his upcoming debut, Thank Me Later. The 23-year-old MC said his collaborators have to fit into his musical plan.

“I really don’t bank on collaborations unless it makes sense,” Drake said recently in Toronto. “If I get people’s verses back and they don’t coincide with the vision I have, I’ll do the whole album by myself. I’m not really worried about the special guests. It’s about linking to me and my story. There’s people that just add to my story.”

    I’m so disappointedddddddddddddddddddddddddd

Damn you guys are harsh. I say listen to the album then have an opinion about it? Mr. Graham puts out quality music. I would rather have 14 quality songs then a bunch of ‘filler’ music like some other rappers have. IDK, we’ll see June 15th.

why didn’t he put Kardi, or Saukrates or even at least JD Era on the album? clearly he doesnt wanna get up lyricaly murk’d in front of the public by his fellow Canadian colleagues, cause he knows the people i just named are the nicest mc’s in the country period. no productions from Rich Kidd either, i’m disappointed, this album was his chance to show the US that Canada got real talent besides himself, kinda selfish but this just his first album still, if he don’t put them on his next album then for sure hes mad selfish. imjustsayin

Don’t be fooled the man knows what hes doing their is just less tracks on the album than on SFG also all the real fans know that his most famous songs amongst his real fans are the ones that have no features…..all the hypebeasts are going to be the one who flock to songs with the features instead of listening to the album as an collective entity ….#IMJUSTSAYING

I have to begin by Apologizing. Sorry for the long ass post. I didn’t intend for it to be this long but oh well.

@Elvin I totally agree. WHY THE HELL IS ANDREENA MILL NOT ON THIS ALBUM???? I was so hoping for that, I’m glad I wasn’t the only one.
Seriously, I am SOOOOOOOOO PISSED about this. Andreena Mill is Fucking Brilliant and it’s no mistake that his 2 best songs Closer and Last Hope are with her.
I also hear you on the non existence of Toronto/Canadian collabs. Although I don’t think/agree he should do it to put anyone on. I sincerely believe that is where he would’ve created the best music.

Seriously, No K-os? No Saukrates? No Kardi? No JD Era, Shad K, Tona, Colin Monroe even? I’m glad he has so many tracks with Boi1da and 40 but really NOT ONE Rich Kidd production NOT ONE? SMH. They’re all straight musical geniuses and among the best in this music industry not just Toronto or Canada but the whole industry period and you don’t seek collabs with NOT ONE?

I too expected more tracks 14 is a decent amount, I guess, but admittedly I’m a little disappointed.

@ Brice I totally get what your saying. I agree with you and everyone else about there being too many features, all of which seem soooo calculated/contrived like look who I got on my album. Even though for him it might not be that that’s how it seems.
@Ctrice you put it best it just doesn’t seem organic. Yes the list of features are impressive but half your album all features with big industry names just really detracts from HIM. It becomes about the featured artists he got to ride on a cosign.

@Milks thanks for reminding me of that. What the Hell did happen with the Andre 3000 collab?

I have no doubt the album will be very successful (Karla: Make sure to tell him to put out enough physical albums) I really think he could and will break the record over a mill sold. I’m thinking he could even do 2+ mill first week. I will be one of those 2 mill. The numbers is where he’ll make history.

TML will be a Really Good album. It will be considered Great by many cause its the popular thing to think and say even though in reality it will be just Good. It will do its numbers regardless and be among one of the better hip hop albums of 2010. It just won’t be among the Greatest of all time like some were hoping.

I’m a Drake fan and have been for the last 2 1/2-3 yrs. I didn’t just hop on some bandwagon because of a cosign. I simply heard his music and started listening and supporting cause I liked it. Just had to say that before the Dick-Riders come with their hater comments. Lol

There is a difference between hating and stating ones constructive opinion. No-one ever benefits from Yes Men.

Lastly Nicki Minaj? … Seriously? … EEEEK!!!

wow this is a really good tracklist, im excited to hear karaoke, fancy, resistance, show me a good time and light up..

Why is everyone so mad about the features??? so far gone had 8 features on it with 18 songs in total, but it really had 16 because brand new was an old track done a while ago added on last minute and congratulations was a bonus track added a day after the release… so drake is known for having lots of features…

hopefully drake got that bonus track with j cole and lupe, thatd be sick

I feel like there will be a couple of other songs that will be on there that weren’t released today. First of all, hes said repeatedly that there is a female surprise feature, I don’t think he would of released that info today. It’s a surprise duhhhh! Second you know itunes, walmart, and target are all fighting for exclusives so there will be maybe 1,2,or 3 more songs that will be store specific. Thirdly last time I checked this is drakes FAN site, all the haters should go talk shit on the hiphop blogs. And as a fan you should give him the benefit of the doubt and give ur opinion after you’ve listened to his album a couple of times. I’ve had my moments where I had doubt in his ability to stay “drake” but that freestyle he released this morning has me sitting pretty and confident in the fact that OUR boy album is gonna do just fine.

Y’all hilarious. It’s called Thank Me Later fir a reason. Stop upselling it’s so damn much. Y’all acting like ol boy is the savior of hip hop, he isn’t, he an artist who, no matter people say, has to deal with executives and marketing. He has the internet abuzz, that’s awesome, but not always enough. Be happy they budgeted enough for him to have so many guest artist ( which we all know will probably be singles, it makes sense); most on a debut don’t have that oppurtunity unless there is a heavy backing from the label. Labels want a return on investment, this is a prime example of that. I, no doubt believe the album will be good, just stop with all the pressure, you’ll end dissatisfied with the end product. Typing on an iPhone btw sucks….
