Video: Drake Refused Kanye’s Offer To Remake ‘Best I Ever Had’ Video

Hmmm, lol.

Some fans liked it, some fans were scratching their heads after the debut of Drake’s “Best I Ever Had” video last month. Some in the blogosphere said the clip’s buxom female basketball team did nothing but cater to the male audience without matching the theme of the song; others just thought it wasn’t all that creative. And a couple of bloggers even went so far as to suggest that director Kanye West sabotaged Drake’s production. [Ha, the 1515 Boys read our comments.]

In fact, Drake told MTV News that West offered to shoot another video for the song, and he declined. He noted that receiving mixed reviews of his clip was a great lesson.

“That career move was very important to me,” he explained at the America’s Most Wanted Music Festival kickoff in Scranton, Pennsylvania. “We’ve done such a great job of building it all up. It’s kind of like people were getting this impression of me that I’m never gonna make a mistake. I’m not made of Teflon. I’m gonna do things for myself sometimes, as opposed to what people want me to do.”

Drake said the abundance of big-breasted women in the video didn’t put up any red flags that the video would offend anyone. He enjoyed the final cut of the video and thought it was right on point.

“If you listen to the song, I’m not saying the most graceful thing in the world. It’s not the most heartfelt song,” Drizzy continued. “I say some pretty wild things in regards to women in the actual song. When me and Kanye were in the studio working on a song for Big Sean, we were talking about it. We saw a comedic element to it. I felt that the climate in the world right now, everything in the world is so serious all the time, my life is serious, I just wanted to laugh, instead of taking myself too serious as the heartthrob and walking hand-in-hand into the movies and taking my shirt off. I felt it’s not that time for me yet. Or maybe never. I’m a very multifaceted person. One thing I told ‘Ye is, ‘I really want to act. I want to act in this video.’ ”

Kanye convinced him that the only way to be humorous was to go all the way with it and make it a full on funny video. “I guess one thing I didn’t consider is what the song personally means to a lot of women,” Drake said. “To those women, I apologize. I do apologize. My intention wasn’t to put anyone down. It was to make them laugh. I wanted people to see something visually different.”

Don’t worry, Drake, judging by your reception at Monday’s AMW show, the fans still love you.

A lot of you have been emailing asking how come there hasn’t been a lot of Drake lately. Well here’s why.

a) He started his tour last night in Scranton, PA with Lil Wayne, Young Money, Soulja Boy, Young Jeezy & Jeremih.

b) He’s working on Thank Me Later the album! They’re looking at a 4th quarter release but we’ll see how that goes. Remember, Drake is the boss & decides that lol.

c) Drake’s ACL seems to be almost healed. He can’t be getting his Jimmy Brooks on & play ball yet but he can still hit the stage.

d) The Successful music video ft. Trey Songz will be out soon!

There’s also some other things going on but we can’t front, he’s been laying low. But we hope you all bought your tickets for the tour! SPEAKING of, we will be calling the winners today for our contest. There will only be 2 winners aka 4 tickets being given out. Don’t worry, these are some good ass seats courtesy of ATF. Pow! We’re going to record the phone calls cause we want to hear your reactions lol. Anyways, that’s it that’s all. Show love!

ATF, out.

Why Was Drake Not on Jay-Z’s Single?

Jay-Z shocked the world with his new single, but was it a surprise to Drake when he didn’t hear himself on the highly-anticipated track?

There had been reports that the Canadian MC was to be featured on “Off That,” the follow-up to “D.O.A.,” from Jigga’s Blueprint 3. Instead, he released “Run This Town” featuring Kanye West and Rihanna.

“I don’t know who came up with that rumor to be honest, but I always knew what Jay’s first single was going to be,” the “Best I Ever Had” rapper told the BoomBox. “Me and Jay did a lot of work together. Maybe at one point he was considering doing it and someone got over-excited and put out a press release that I was going to be on the first single.”

Jay-Z also weighed in on the absence of Drake. “It’s very difficult to know what’s going to be my next single,” he explained to DJ Semtex. “I really just played a couple [potential] records and everybody ran with it. But I’m still making records.”

So what did Drake think of Hov’s new single? “I think Jay made a great choice,” he said. “I think the ‘Run This Town’ song is phenomenal. I think Kanye kills that shit. I actually heard that song when it was a Rihanna track.”

As of right now, Drake is scheduled to appear on The Blueprint 3, along with Kid Cudi, Mr Hudson, and MGMT.
